South London Sanctuary

This South London garden was developed alongside the renovation and remodelling of the house, requiring high levels of technical detail during the design process. However the greatest challenges came in during the build, where the logistics of a complex site with limited access required lots of planning and coordination – just the kind of thing we at MWG thrive on!

Working around the excavated swimming pool – a temporary bridge was built to enable larger plants to be moved over it – and ensuring the extensive planting avoided the extensive below ground services – we delivered a garden that is truly a sanctuary in the city, exactly as the client wanted.

Creating layered privacy planting was key to achieving the sense of private garden, and a lot of time on site and careful consideration was applied to ensuring plants were located in key positions for maximum privacy.

The end result is a verdant, flower and texture filled garden with dedicated spaces for entertaining, dining and poolside relaxation (accompanied by the gentle background noise of a restored 18c fountain), a lawned play space for the children and life essentials such as bike and bin stores carefully designed in to make them unobtrusive.
